The Ironic Story of the ‘Squeakers Welcome’ Raid I Promised To Do

Some of you might remember that earlier in the week I promised to run a Hard Mode Wrath of the Machine raid where I would advertise on LFG that squeakers were welcome. It all stemmed from this post where I wrote an open letter to 12 year old LFG'ers everywhere that were the bane of my existence.

Well as promised, I ran the raid last night composed entirely of a group that responded to my post on LFG indicating that patience, a mic and 385 light were all the I required. "Squeakers, Noobs and Scrubs are all welcome", the post said. To sum it up, I got off easy. I ended up with a group of 3 adults and 3 teenagers. Half the group had never finished the hard raid and 2 were under 390. One of them asked if we could do monitors and I immediately agreed. The teenagers were funny, listened incredibly well and worked hard despite a few very long struggles with certain areas of the raid. It was a marathon. We finally completed Vosik challenge mode and despite me getting Bungo'ed to orbit at Seige Engine, we were able to recover, move on to the binary monitors and make our way to Aksis. After 3 1/2 hours, one of the more experienced guys had no choice but to leave at Aksis Phase 2. We added another adult who made a few attempts but silently left after about half hour. Then we added his replacement. Ghost, as we called him, was probably 12 or 13. They very demographic I was speaking to. He was calm, respectful and had ice in his veins. I promised to keep trying until 3:00am. At 3:30 I made the age old declaration of "two more tries and I have to call it" I knew this team could do it and on the next attempt, at 3:40am, after 4 1/2 hours and 40 wipes, we destroyed Aksis and the source of the SIVA outbreak for good. This was honestly one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. I learned a lot from these guys. The fact that a 'squeaker' was the one that finally made the team whole and allowed us to finish was not lost on me. I thanked every one for running with me and logged off, grateful that I had that opportunity.
