After the quite shocking events of the last few days I got curious as to how a company can fail so miserably with a new system. I tried to collect some data on Hi-Rez, but the only thing I found were Glassdoor reviews. But these reviews are rather interesting and might explain why OB44 became such a huge mess.
What is Glassdoor?
Glassdoor is a webpage on which emloyees can post anonymus reviews about a company. Note that nobody can prove whether these people ever actually worked at Hi-Rez. I looked at the account creation on glassdoor.co and you don't even need to solve a captcha. Salty employees as well as managers can easily fake positive as well as negative reviews.
Are those reviews trustworthy?
Never trust a source with an unknown author! However, in this specific case, the reviews actually seam realistic, but we'll get to that later.
What do the reviews say?
Bad news everybody! Hi-Rez has a total score of 2.8 out of 5 stars. Thats real bad! Furthermore, only 30% approve of Erez Goren(CEO of Hi-Rez), which again is not a good sign.

lack of internal communication
long work hours
incompetent and greedy management
The reviews on glass door all have 2 things in common
- they complain about management/the CEO in numerous ways
- they all mention friendly coworkers
This weird trend of positive as well as negative reviews mentioning these things have lead me to believe that this has to be true. All the people who work in low positions(artists, programmers, PR specialists etc.) seem like generally friendly people. But the higher ups seem to force unrealistic deadlines and make changes without knowing what they might result in. This could explain the general buggyness of new patches and the unpolished additions. Does anybody remember Drybear saying that they worked severe overtime hours during one of the latest patch preveiws? I do. They also want to release 13 new champions this year, so I actually very much believe those rumors. The reason why Tribes failed and why some patches are just horrible are neither the people we see during the patch previews nor any of the low ranking emloyees. The reason why HR is in a bad state are incompetent mangers whom we don't know the names of and a oblivous and eccentric CEO.
My advice to Hi-Rez:
Slow. The. Fuck. Down. We don't care if a patch is delayed by a week because bugs need to be fixed or because some artwork isn't ready. Just give your employees room to breathe and try to work less overtime. Or at least give them a high overime salary. Just take your time and deliver quality work. Decrease the number of champions to a more reasonable amount if you have to, we don't care. If I, as a customer, had to decide between a lot of unpolished and rushed content or a few high quality patches, I would gladly take the latter.
It's finally over. I just used the word "review" way too many times.
