I wanted to do a quick write up of my experience with Ghost Recon: Wildlands after the closed Beta ended so here goes: First off I have been a huge fan of this series and it was one of the first games I played online with friends on my OG Xbox back in the original Ghost Recon days. I originally didn’t like the GRAW series but it became my favorite in the franchise.
Future Soldier had a lot of good things in it that I enjoyed but I never really got into MP aspect of it. So on to Wildlands… Its ironic that I have heard more people say that Wildlands feels or looks like several other games but not once have I heard anyone say It feels like Ghost Recon. Don’t get me wrong I love the open world aspect part of the game but its actually a blessing and a curse having a game this size. I love the environments of this game but because it’s so large, I feel I have to fly or drive everywhere vs walking for 15 minutes to get to an objective.
Of course you can fast travel, but doesn’t that kind of take away from enjoying the attention to detail UbiSoft put into the creating Bolivia? Even when playing in co-op, one of us would fly a helo to the objective, and it seemed like forever to get from one place to the next. A few times I would just check messages on my phone until we got on ground to start the mission.
In Single player at least there was some dialogue between the characters –but which characters? I never notice who was saying what. (Maybe because I had captions off). I won’t say anything about the driving / flying mechanics that haven’t already been said but I find it surprising that for a game with a map this size that the transportation controls weren’t nailed down properly.
Another thing that has makes me raise my eyebrow is why is this only 4 player co-op? You give us a huge map and only allow 4 players at a time? Which also brings up the question about what the hell am I supposed to do when I finish all of the missions? There isn’t a confirmed PvP for Wildlands although I have heard “rumors” that it will be added.
Why are they so tight lipped with this? As it currently stands, you could technically complete the game and then really have no reason to pick it up again. At least in The Division you were grinding for better gear and had a competitive PvP / PvE region. I really want to enjoy Wildlands as a GR fan, however I’m not sure how much interest will be in this game once I finish it.
