I have been a gamer for 20 years plus. (I am 30 years old). I have watched twitch since the beginning and have settled on being a Lirik viewer the majority of the time. Anyone who watches Lirik knows he loves BR type games and has played them from the start of Arma 2 mods.
While I always enjoyed the tense battle and situations which I watch, I never felt I would be up to the challenge of competing myself. Every time I tried H1Z1 or the Arma 3 mod, I would freeze when looting, panic at the beginning, and ultimately get discouraged and quit
On a whim I requested access to Battlegrounds, on the loose fact that I was once a Rocket league/ Heroes of the Storm streamer (before I got a promotion at work which forced me to stop streaming). When I found out I got in, I was excited.
Now over the last 2 weekends, I have fallen in love with this game. Every mechanic that you instinctively feel should be there is there. Gun play feels great, Loot spawns are good, and the inventory system is great. One thing about BR games that I hated was the muscle memory reaction speed you needed for sorting out your inventory. With Battlegrounds, I feel with the hotkeys for boosts/medkits, and the simple attachment system, coupled with the different level vests/ helmets/ backpacks, they have made the gameplay feel great.
The only drawback I have found since playing this game is the fact that no other BR game lives up to it, in my opinion. I was craving some matches last night and loaded up H1Z1 KotK. After 3 matches of getting jump shotgunned over a fence and 2 matches of the craziest lag I have experienced in a long time, I had to give up. I decided to try the Arma 3 mod, and while it was much better and familiar (since I was an Arma player), it still doesn't change the fact that it is "Arma", so bugs are a given.
I guess I just wanted to share my first impressions and wanted to praise Playerunknown and his team for making the game that H1 should have been.
