PvP servers with PvE base elements. NOT A GENERAL RULE FOR ALL PVP SERVERS!

The rules I list below were just some of the things that came to mind that would completely alter the gameplay feel on these kind of servers.

  • Bases can’t be damaged.
  • Players can’t be damaged inside their bases.
  • Players can’t damage players outside their bases.

Introduction

Saevio, Schultizzle, whatever. Approaching 600 hours played on Just Survive. Not an insane amount of time compared to some, but clearly this game has potential to be worth a time investment.

First off, its been a good couple months since I’ve posted or even been online. Frankly, I’ve been extremely dissatisfied with the game overall though I have been keeping up to date on updates and etc. I still have very high hopes for the Just Survive aspect of this game and want to have fun here.

With that in mind, I strictly make this topic in regards to what I consider a short term solution for an otherwise extremely relevant issue regarding PvP and the state of this game. I will not attempt to hold discussion regarding what I think Just Survive needs to do to ‘fix their game’.

The Issues

With that in mind, I hopped on yesterday with a friend to check things out in person rather than just reading. Spent a couple hours gathering supplies, made a small base, chests, stashed our efforts and went to bed. A little information about that below.

PvP server, low pop. That’s always been our thing. We like PvP confrontation every now and then but not that often; we like them to feel meaningful, not a gun fight every time you turn a corner. 4 – 5 hours or so spent, nothing crazy, only 2 people so it was pretty casual. We found an ATV, got things rolling more efficiently. Ended up making a base with 2nd story walls, couple shelters, doors on everything, etc.

Standard stuff. Ran into a couple people while doing runs, some close run ins with aggressive folks when we were on the ATV, even got a good kill on a person mid metal run. Basically, it was exactly what you’d expect from a PvP server and it was… enjoyable.

What wasn’t enjoyable, and pretty much every single player who’s played this game more than a single day knows this feeling, is logging back on the next day and everything is gone.

The (Temporary) Solution

We all also know the same song and dance, it’s a PvP server, don’t play on a PvP server if you don’t want your stuff to be raided, yada yada. Save it, thanks.

With the current state of the game, base building is fundamentally flawed. This base building was only supposed to be temporary in first place anyways. With a PvP server’s rulesets making bases raidable, but you having zero tools available to you to 1) even know you’re being raided unless you’re online and 2) being able to even DO anything about it anyways…

What’s the point of base building on a PvP server unless you’re a massive clan with massive collective efforts to defend and collect and rebuild? Simply put, the answer is that there isn’t.

So alternatives?

Play on a PvE server. That gets boring basically an hour after you realize there is no danger and its basically sandbox mode. You practice base building here, or learn the map. Killing zombies on a simple punji farm offers nothing. Player interactions are pointless and basically there is no goal, no motive to play beyond building some crazy base, and for what?

This got me thinking of temporary solutions, until better hashed out actual gameplay solutions are offered and the game gets… better, honestly.

Give us a couple hybrid ruleset servers. I’ve seen a couple posts over the last 2 years kind of touch base on this idea, but I thought they were all pretty bad overall, and not to mention very limited, like 5 topics over 2 years, if my search is working correctly?

Thoughts

Once upon a time, I would have thought this was a terrible idea. That’s just going to let people hoard supplies with basically no repercussions when they die.

Well, that is basically the point now. I know there are hundreds, thousands? of players like myself who can’t stand playing PvE because its just flat boring. But hate wasting so much time in PvP servers because the moment you log off after a long day of effort, your efforts are gone.

Give these players the ability to have some form of long term fun. Work hard to build your big ugly bases, grind to amass a pile of ammo, finally have that feeling of safety for your base, but be able to gear up and go out and be able to kill people, be killed, risk v reward until your hearts content.

Until the Devs can figure out how to address base building, raiding, “defense”, just overall PvP design, this seems like a good idea for a couple servers. Obviously this isn’t just a blanket rule for all PvP servers, this would just be for a couple servers or however many they’d see fit.

I know for sure, personally speaking for my group of friends that play, this alone would get my group back together to play some Just Survive for a while. Maybe it’d reignite some interest for other folks too until more permanent solutions get offered.
