Daily Vanguard Bounties Guide

There used to be a Vanguard Bounties guide with each Daily Reset Thread. However they were removed because the guide was becoming outdated as well as making the Daily Reset Thread cramped. I felt that having a single post may prove helpful to some. I understand that all of these are common knowledge to the experienced players amongst us, but it may still be useful to the new players, players creating new characters, returning players and those just wanting to knock out few quick bounties for extra reputation and XP.

The guide is for completing the bounties in isolation. Ideally, you will be working on multiple bounties at once. For me, the fun is in completing all 6 daily bounties in the most efficient (i.e. quickest) way possible.

I prefer to complete the bounties using story missions as much as possible. Going into patrol means dealing with trolls, Taken Corruption and public events affecting enemy spawns.

If you know of better/quicker ways to complete the bounties, please let me know and I will add/amend this guide!

The guide is grouped by "types" of bounties and within the groups, they are ordered alphabetically by name of the bounties.

I will mention various useful story mission checkpoints throughout the guide. The details of these checkpoints will be provided at the end of the guide.

1. Patrol Bounties

There is always one patrol bounty each day.

Killing a minor enemy = 2%

Killing a major = 10%

Picking up a planetary resource = 10%

Opening a chest = 15% (thanks to /u/Peekis_the_Disavowed)

  • 1.1 Cosmodrome Reconnaissance – Collect resource nodes, open chests and kill enemies in the Cosmodrome.

Load up the Siege of the Warmind (Earth) checkpoint. Kill all the enemies (there are just over 40 enemies), jump off the edge to reset, kill several more.

  • 1.2 Dreadnaught Reconnaissance – Collect resource nodes, open chests and kill enemies on the Dreadnaught.

Load up the Regicide (Dreadnaught) checkpoint. Kill all the enemies (except the sniper at the far end), jump off the edge to reset. Do this a few times.

  • 1.3 Lunar Reconnaissance – Collect resource nodes, open chests and kill enemies on the Moon.

a) Load up the Dark Beyond (Moon) checkpoint. Kill all the enemies (except the Knight), get the Knight to kill you to reset. Repeat until completed.

b) Load up patrol on the Moon and just kill a bunch of Fallen at Archer's Line or Anchor of Light. Completing patrol beacons, collecting helium coils and opening chests completes the bounties quicker.

  • 1.4 Mars Reconnaissance – Collect resource nodes, open chests and kill enemies on Mars.

a) Start up the Exclusion Zone (Mars) mission on Hard difficulty. Follow the story, open the door, kill the Cabal Majors (there are 9) and get the enemies to kill you to reset. Kill 1 more Cabal Major.

b) Load up patrol on Mars and do circuits at the Hollows killing Cabal. Completing patrol beacons, collecting relic iron and opening chests completes the bounties quicker.

  • 1.5 Venus Reconnaissance – Collect resource nodes, open chests and kill enemies on Venus.

a) Load up A Stranger's Call (Venus) checkpoint. Kill 50 Vex (there are 53 Vex at this checkpoint).

b) Load up Scourge of Winter (Venus) checkpoint. Kill everyone except Draksis (the boss) and let Draksis kill you reset. Repeat until completed.

2. Defeating Enemies

Any enemy of the race described in the bounty will work. These can be done at any location.

  • 2.1 Aim For the Juicebox – Defeat 50 Vex.

Load up A Stranger's Call (Venus) checkpoint. Kill 50 Vex (there are 53 Vex at this checkpoint).

  • 2.2 Armor Breaker – Defeat 50 Cabal.

Load up patrol on Mars and do circuits at the Hollows killing Cabal. If trolls or Taken Corruption stops the Cabal spawns, follow the path for the Dust Palace strike. There are more than 50 Cabal along this path.

  • 2.3 Eliksni Hunting – Defeat 50 Fallen.

a) Load up Scourge of Winter (Venus) checkpoint. Kill everyone except Draksis (the boss) and let Draksis kill you or kill yourself by standing next to a 'radish' and shooting it to reset. Repeat until completed.

b) Load up patrol on Venus. Head to Ember Caves and kill the Fallen there.

  • 2.4 Hive Hunting – Defeat 50 Hive.

a) Load up the Siege of the Warmind (Earth) checkpoint. Kill all the enemies (there are just over 40 enemies), jump off the edge to reset, kill several more.

b) Load up the Dark Beyond (Moon) checkpoint. Kill all the enemies (except the Knight), get the Knight to kill you to reset. Repeat until completed.

  • 2.5 Oryx's Horde – Defeat 50 Taken.

Load up the Regicide (Dreadnaught) checkpoint. Kill all the enemies (except the 2 snipers at the far end), jump off the edge to reset. Do this a few times.

3. Defeating Major Enemies

Only Major and Ultra (yellow health bar) enemies will work for these bounties

  • 3.1 Elite Breaker – Defeat 10 Cabal Majors or Ultras.

Start up the Exclusion Zone (Mars) mission on Hard difficulty. Follow the story, open the door, kill the Cabal Majors (there are 9) and get the enemies to kill you to reset. Kill 1 more Cabal Major.

  • 3.2 Heavy Duty Models – Defeat 10 Vex Majors or Ultras.

Load up patrol on Venus. Head to the Citadel. There are 2 Vex majors who spawn at the far end of the 'bridge' section and 1 Vex mjor who spawn at the Conflux (bottom right of the 'bridge'). There may be more Vex majors who spawn at the beginning of the 'bridge' section.

  • 3.3 House Breaking – Defeat 10 Fallen Majors or Ultras.

Load up Scourge of Winter (Venus) checkpoint. There are 2 Fallen Majors. Kill them, (do not kill Draksis, the boss) get killed by the enemies or kill yourself by standing next to a 'radish' and shooting it to reset. Repeat until completed.

  • 3.4 Hunting the Exalted – Defeat 10 Hive Majors or Ultras.

a) Start up Siege of the Warmind (Earth) on Hard difficulty. Follow the story until you get into the compound. There are 3 Major Thralls and 1 Major Knight. Kill them, then jump off the edge to reset. Kill the 3 Major Thralls, reset. Kill the 3 Major Thralls again.

b) Start up The Sword of Crota (Moon) story mission on Hard difficulty. Follow the story and kill Banuk (he is a Major and counts towards the bounty), then go into the complex. There will be 3 Major Acolytes and 1 Major Knight. For some reason (bug?) the Major Knight does NOT count for this bounty. He also does NOT count as a Hive for the "Hive Hunting" bounty. Kill the 3 Major Acolytes, jump off the edge and repeat until completed.

  • 3.5 Taken Hunting – Defeat 10 Taken Majors or Ultras.

Start up Fear's Embrace (Phobos/Mars) story mission. There will be 3 Major Taken at the beginning of the mission. Kill 2, and keep 1 alive to make him split up to spawn more Majors. He will split up 5 times, making it 8 Majors in total. Jump off the edge to reset. Kill 2 more Majors.

4. Weapons Related Bounties

Use Siege of the Warmind (Earth) checkpoint for any of these, or preferably, complete them while working on other bounties such as patrols or killing enemy types. You can complete these bounties at any location.

  • 4.1 Hand of Thunder – Get 30 Arc weapon kills.

Use your favourite arc weapon, such as Zhalo Supercell, Fang of Ir Yut or Fatebringer.

  • 4.2 Heavyweight – Get 5 kills within 3 seconds 5 times using a Heavy Weapon.

There is a typo in the description – you only need 3 kills (instead of 5) within 3 seconds 5 times. I like to use Qullim's Terminus but you can use any heavy weapon. At Siege of the Warmind (Earth) checkpoint, Thralls come down the stairs in waves of 4, 5 or 6. Kill the first 3 with the heavy, kill the remainder with primary (or whatever) and repeat on the next wave of Thralls.

  • 4.3 Into the Void – Get 30 Void weapon kills.

Use your favourite void weapon, such as Atheon's Epilogue.

  • 4.4 Kill It with Fire – Get 30 kills with Solar weapons.

Use your favourite solar weapon, such as Vision of Confluence.

  • 4.5 Primary Precision – Get 30 precision kills using a Primary Weapon.

Use a primary weapon to get precision kills. Avoid using a gun with Firefly (you will get collateral kills which won't be precision) and/or Explosive Rounds (sometimes the explosive perk will proc and won't count as a precision).

  • 4.6 Quick Drops – Get 30 precision kills.

Use any weapon type (except swords and rockets?) to get precision kills. You should avoid using a gun with Firefly (you will get collateral kills which won't be precision) and/or Explosive Rounds (sometimes the explosive perk will proc and won't count as a precision).

  • 4.7 Specialized Rampage – Get 3 kills within 3 seconds 7 times using a Special Weapon.

I like to use sidearms to get 3 kills quickly, then rest, then repeat. You can use any Special Weapon of your choice but ammo may be a problem if not using a sidearm. Also, I've been working on my sidearm kills Grimoire when doing this bounty.

5. Ability Related Bounties

Use Siege of the Warmind (Earth) checkpoint for any of these, or preferably, complete them while working on other bounties such as patrols or killing enemy types. You can complete these bounties at any location.

  • 5.1 A Kell's Hand – Get 20 melee kills without dying.

Just punch things until completed. It does not need to be a melee ability for this bounty.

Memory of Felwinter artifact which gives you 2 melee charges is usefull here.

Titans – Sunbreaker with Stoke the Forge and Simmering Flames.

Huntes – Gunslinger with Knife Juggler.

Warlocks – Stormcaller with Perpetual Charge.

  • 5.2 Call Lightning – Get 30 kills with Arc Abilities.

Arc super, arc melee or arc grenade kills will count for this bounty. Use Bad Juju to build up super quickly. Wear helmets that speed up super charge rate – perks like Inverse Shadow and Shine On.

Titans – Striker with Shockwave (bigger area for Fist of Havoc), Overload (chance for instant melee charge), Shoulder Charge, The Armamentarium exotic chest piece for extra grenade.

Hunters – Bladedancer with Encore (getting kills extends the super duration), ATS/8 Tarantella exotic chest piece for faster charging melee and grenades.

Warlocks – Stormcaller with Super Conductor, Chain Lightning, Perpetual Charge

  • 5.3 Captivating Light – Get 30 kills with Void abilities.

Void super, void melee or void grenade kills will count for this bounty. Use Bad Juju to build up super quickly. Wear helmets that speed up super charge rate – perks like Inverse Shadow and Shine On.

Titans – Defender with Untouchable (Ward of Dawn charges quicker), The Armamentarium exotic chest piece for extra grenade. Every time you cast Ward of Dawn, you get grenade and melee instantly. Make sure to use your grenade and melee before casting Ward of Dawn.

Hunters – Nightstalker with Quiver (for 3 arrows) and Lockdown (grenades last longer). Spike grenade and Lucky Raspberry exotic chest piece (grenade every time you die). Rush out at Siege of the Warmind (Earth) checkpoint past the first Knight, and throw Spike grenade in the path of the oncoming Thralls. Stand on top of the grenade. Thrall will come to you to scratch you, but they will die from the grenade. You can get 10+ kills each time. Jump over the edge and repeat. You can use Shadowshot as well.

Warlocks – Voidwalker with Scatter grenade, Soul Rip, The Hunger and Embrace the Void. Nothing Manacles exotic gloves will pretty much lets you throw grenades constantly.

  • 5.4 Exploding Light – Get 20 grenade kills.

Any grenade kills will count for this bounty. Try to get enemies to group up to get multiple kills with 1 grenade.

Titans – Sunbreaker with Fusion Grenades (I find them easier to use) and Simmering Flames (grenades charge faster if you don't use your super). The Armamentarium exotic chest piece for extra grenade.

Hunters – Nightstalker with Lockdown (grenades last longer) and Spike grenade. Lucky Raspberry exotic chest piece (grenade every time you die). Rush out at Siege of the Warmind checkpoint past the first Knight, and throw Spike grenade in the path of the oncoming Thralls. Stand on top of the grenade. Thrall will come to you to scratch you, but they will die from the grenade. You can get 10+ kills each time. Jump over the edge and repeat.

Warlocks – Voidwalker with Scatter grenade, Soul Rip, The Huner and Embrace the Void. Nothing Manacles exotic gloves will pretty much lets you throw grenades constantly. Or Sunsinger and throw lots of grenades during Radiance

  • 5.5 Font of Light – Generate 20 Orbs of Light.

Mainly from casting supers, but you can make orbs from other perks. Exotics with extra orb perk is useful (Crest of Alpha Lupi for Titans & Hunters, Light Beyond Nemesis for Warlocks)

Titans – Defenders with Gift of Light and drop orbs with every punch kill, or Sunbreaker and throw hammers.

Hunters – Nightstalker with Black Hole and Light of the Pack. Orb making machine.

Warlocks – Stormcaller or Sunsinger either will help you make orbs during super.

  • 5.6 Horseshoes and Hand Grenades – Kill 15 enemies with attachable grenades.

Only attachable grenades work for this bounty. You have to get a kill with the attached grenade, any collateral kills will not count (e.g. if there is a group of Thrall, only 1 kill will count). Also, be careful with enemies with high health – if you don't get the kill with the initial detonation, the kill will not count for the bounty. Sometimes with high health enemies, you will see 2 damage numbers – one for the initial detonation and the 2nd for the collateral. If you see 2 damage numbers, it means that it didn't work for this bounty. You should reduce the health of high health enemies first, before attaching a grenade, just to be safe.

Titans – Sunbreaker with Fusion Grenade and Simmering Flames (grenades charge faster if you don't use the super). The Armamentarium exotic chest piece for extra grenade. Or Defender with Magnetic Grenades with The Armamentarium.

Hunters – Blade Dancer with Flux grenade. ATS/8 Tarantella exotic chest piece for faster charging grenades. Or Lucky Raspberry exotic chest piece (grenade every time you die) – use the Siege of the Warmind (Earth) checkpoint, rush out, attach a grenade to a Thrall, jump over the edge and repeat.

Warlocks – Sunsinger with Fusion Grenade. Throw lots of grenades during Radiance.

  • 5.7 Shining Light – Get 30 Super kills.

Get kills with the Super abilities. Warlock Sunsinger during Radiance does not work for this bounty. Hunter Nightstalker with Shadowshot will only gets you 3 kills with Quiver.

Use Bad Juju to build up super quickly. Wear helmets that speed up super charge rate – perks like Inverse Shadow and Shine On.

Titans – Sunbreaker with Explosive Pyre can get lots of kills. Or Striker with Aftershock, wait for enemies to group up.

Hunters – Gunslinger with Combustion and Keyhole. Wait for enemies to group up. Or Bladedancer with Encore.

Warlocks – Stormcaller with Superconductor and Transcendence. Don't use grenades or melee.

  • 5.8 Sunbreak Challenge – Get 30 kills with Solar abilities.

Solar super, solar melee or solar grenade kills will count for this bounty. Use Bad Juju to build up super quickly. Wear helmets that speed up super charge rate – perks like Inverse Shadow and Shine On.

Titans – Sunbreaker with Stoke the Forge and punch everything while waiting for super to build up.

Hunters – Gunslinger with Combustion and Keyhole. Wait for enemies to group up. Knife Juggler and Gambler's Dagger will lets you throw infinite solar Knives as long as you don't miss a precision kill.

Warlocks – Sunsinger with Touch of Flame and Viking Funeral and Solar grenades, throw grenades and melees while waiting for super to charge up. Throw lots of grenades during Radiance. Sunbreaker exotic gloves will help with the solar grenades.

6. Miscellaneous Bounties

These don't technically belong to any of the above categories. These can be done with any weapon or ability or class at any location. Ideally, you will be working on these at the same time as other bounties.

  • 6.1 Deathless – Earn 10,000 XP without dying.

Easiest way to do this bounty is to 'hand in' the completed bounties while you are on Earth/Moon/Venus/Mars/Phobos/Dreadnaught. Handing in (any) 4 bounties will get you 10,000XP for this bounty. Do NOT hand in bounties while at the Tower/Temple/Reef/Orbit – if you do, the XP will NOT go towards this bounty.

Getting Gold on your first Public Event of the Day will give you 4000XP, if you do not want to use bounties.

  • 6.2 Enemy in Every Corner – Get 5 kills within 3 seconds 5 times.

Siege of the Warmind (Earth) checkpoint. There will be 5 waves of Thralls coming down the stairs, mostly with 5 or 6 per wave. Kill them quickly (primary with Firefly perk is handy here) and repeat until completed.

  • 6.3 Fast Striker – Kill 30 enemies without taking damage from them.

Keep killing enemies until done. You can take damage from enemies, and you can die as well and will not reset the bounty.

  • 6.4 Invincible! – Get 30 kills without dying.

There may be a bug with the progress bar for this bounty. The progress bar will NOT move, so just keep killing enemies until completed.

If you go to orbit before getting 30 kills, it will reset the count to zero. Make sure to complete the bounty before going to orbit.

Load up Siege of the Warmind (Earth) or A Stranger's Call (Venus) and kill enemies until completed.

7. Useful Story Mission Checkpoints

  • 7.1 Siege of the Warmind

The BEST checkpoint for doing bounties, quests and weapon testing.

To create a checkpoint, load up Siege of the Warmind (Earth) on easy difficulty and follow the mission until you get down into the complex.

You will come to a corridor with many Hive enemies (2 knights, acolytes and lots of Thrall). Kill them all.

You will come to a set of stairs to the left of the corridor where 5 waves of Thralls will come down, with a yellow health bar Knight at the top of the stairs. Kill them all.

Do NOT go through the doors on either side of the top of the stairs. Go back to the corridor and jump over the edge to reset.

There will be around 45 Hive enemies (it will be different each time).

You will now have this checkpoint whenever you load up Siege of the Warmind in the future.

  • 7.2 A Stranger's Call

To create a checkpoint, load up A Stranger's Call (Venus) on easy difficulty and follow the mission until you are asked to activate a Conflux (white light pillar thing).

From there, there will be 7 waves of enemies.

Waves 1 and 2 are very close together and may seem like the same wave.

Wave 4 will have a Minotaur.

Wave 7 will have 2 Minotaurs.

During the last wave (with 2 Minotaurs) do NOT kill all the enemies. Get an enemy to kill you, or stand next to an orange 'canister', shoot it and kill yourself to reset.

There are 53 Vex enemies.

After reset, you will start at Wave 5.

You will now have this checkpoint whenever you load up A Stranger's Call in the future.

  • 7.3 Regicide

To create a checkpoint, load up Regicide (Dreadnaught) on easy difficulty and follow the mission until you are in an open area called The Asylum. This is the same area where there are 2 Shriekers on either side during the Sunless Cell strike.

On the far side, on either side of the exit door, there will be 2 Taken snipers. Do NOT kill them. Killing them will lose the checkpoint.

Kill everything else. You can pause to let the Taken split up to create more enemies for you. You will get about 20 or so Taken enemies depending on how much you let them split up. Jump over the edge to reset.

You will now have this checkpoint whenever you load up Regicide in the future. You will spawn in an area called The Founts, which is only a short run prior to The Asylum.

  • 7.4 Dark Beyond

To create a checkpoint, load up Dark Beyond (Moon) on easy difficulty and follow the mission until "We've woken the Hive!".

Bunch of Hive will spawn, kill them all EXCEPT the Knight. Once you kill the enemies outside, you can move inside and kill some more, but don't kill the Knight. There are about 30 Hive. Let the Knight kill you to reset.

You will now have this checkpoint whenever you load up Dark Beyond in the future.

  • 7.5 Scourge of Winter

To create a checkpoint, load up Scourge of Winter (Venus) on easy difficulty and follow the mission until you get to the boss room where Draksis is.

There will be 2 Major Captains as well as other Fallen enemies.

Do NOT kill Draksis.

If you damage Draksis (without killing him), 4 Shanks will spawn.

Let Draksis kill you, or stand next to a 'radish' and shoot it to kill yourself.

You will now have this checkpoint whenever you load up Scourge of Winter in the future.
