I come from playing Ark, and I feel like I was too late to the game to have any affect on developer direction. I don't want this game to end up like Ark, so I will be as vocal as I can for changes that I think should be made or features that should be added.
One major problem with Ark is the impossibility to do end game content solo. That lead to things going stale very quickly for a solo player. Exiles, I believe, has a way to fix that in the form of Thralls. I love the idea of enslaving? conquering? taming? (not sure what the correct term is) Thralls. There are so many things you can do with this. One thing I would love to see is a form of command system- similar to the whistle system in Ark.
I got my first Thrall the other day, a fighter, and set him around my base. He immediately aggro'd a shaleback and died very quickly. I laughed (and cried a little), but then thought how I wish I could have set him passive like in Ark. I don't think there is a need to reinvent the wheel (Ark pun intended) here. A command system that includes: passive, neutral, aggressive, attack-my-target, follow, stay, etc. Not only would this be helpful in keeping dumb NPCs from committing suicide, but also in creating an army of Thralls. If I had an army of Thralls, I wouldn't need (and don't have) friends irl. This would allow introverts (i.e. most gamers, imho) to experience all of the content of the game keeping it from becoming stale.
Since the game is so new, and I am so new to the community I could be uninformed, and this could already be a thing in the works. If so, great! If not, it will be interesting to see how much influence the community can have on the game. My experience with Ark left me feeling very disconnected (all my fault) from the developers. I hope that is not the case here.
